The Ghana Cocoa Platform (GCP) has been created to provide opportunities for dialogue, greater stakeholder participation and coordinated action across the sector. The aim of the platform is to facilitate multi-stakeholder solutions to promote a sustainable cocoa sector for Ghana, in addition to boosting production through enhanced partnership and cooperation among stakeholders.
Cocoa is a major contributor to Ghana’s economic development, and represents an important source of employment. With over 500,000 farmers dependent on cocoa production for their income, in addition to those engaged in trade, transport and processing. Effective communication and cooperation is a fundamental requirement, and this platform aims to help facilitate these processes. Despite the progress achieved in the last years, key issues such as farmers’ poverty, or deforestation remain prevalent due to persistent barriers that individual efforts have not been able to overcome. The GCP will continue to provide knowledge and support to counter these deprivations.
