capacity building

Many farmers produce low quantities and poor quality of cocoa per hectare. There can be many reasons for this poor performance. It turns out that intensive training and extension services are succesful ways to improve farmer's output per hectare.

Recently there are some positive experiences with farmer buisness training, helping households to make informed decisions. How to build farmers' capacity and how to motivate farmers to invest time and money on their farms is part of this topic.

Food for thought

GIZ has set up farmer business schools together with partners in West Africa, and supported by the World Cocoa Foundation. Already more than 60,000 farmers have been trained in 4 West African countries.
