Diversification is a way to promote sustainable cocoa production and can help farmers secure their livelihood. It can be both a way of mitigating risks and improving food security.
For cocoa, which is a seasonal crop, diversification is also an important way of generating family income throughout the year.
Recently GIZ gave a presentation on a business approach towards diversification. This approach forms part of their farmer business school curriculum.
