To share, meet and learn for sustainable cocoa

productivity & quality

Many farmers produce little cocoa per hectare, affecting farmers' income and the sustainability of the farm. It is therefore seen as a threat for the whole sector. Good agricultural practices together with use of good planting material, pest management and fertilizer is seen as crucial to increase the productivity levels.

Besides volumes of cocoa production also quality plays a key role. Especially post-harvest practices affect the quality levels. Price-differentiation (i.e. higher price for better cocoa) stimulates the production of quality cocoa.

Food for thought

Quality is not only about the quality of the bean but increasingly also about the quality of the production process. How can we make sure that the total quality of cocoa increases?
