To share, meet and learn for sustainable cocoa

Crops & soil

Crops&soil connects you to national research institutes, knowledge portals, universities, companies and others with publications and databases covering technical aspects of sustainable cocoa production. Often these institutes invest in more fundamental research on topics like genetic modification, resistent cocoa varieties, soil fertility, etc.

The Dutch government, through the Buffer Stock Fund, has contributed significantly to research in the domain of crops&soils.

National Cocoa Research Institutes

There are a number of cocoa growing institutes based in cocoa producing countries. E.g. the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) and the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) or the Cocoa Research Centre (formarly known as Cocoa Research Unit - CRU) in Trinidad. These institutes provide technical and contextual knowledge on growing cocoa.

Cocoa Knowledge Portals

Knowledge on cocoa is shared on several (online) Cocoa portals. These organisations are not bound to one country but often operate on a wider scale.

Universities & Knowledge Institutes

There are several universities and knowledge institutes working on technical issues in cocoa which are not based in cocoa producing countries. Private R&D departments, specialized cocoa research centers and universities provide a lot of knowledge on for example technologies to combat pest and diseases. They often work together with national institutes, and are located in many places in the world.
